Ciaramella - Shawm
Ciaramella, piffero, pipìta, totarella, trombetta are few regional names of this ancient oboe from southern Italy. No doubt: my favourite instrument!
I have always loved the atypical musical instruments.
I start playing ethnic music with a little tambourine tucked away in a closet. Then, I keep collecting several other ethnic instruments that I found along the way. Little by little, I had modest list of instruments that I play:
Ciaramella, piffero, pipìta, totarella, trombetta are few regional names of this ancient oboe from southern Italy. No doubt: my favourite instrument!
Traditional bagpipe of center and southern Italy with 2 chanters and from 1 to 3 drones. With single or double reeds. A little joke: "What's the difference between one bagpipe tuned in G and another one with same tuning?"... :-P
Other bagpipes from northern Italy and Europe with one single chanter and from 1 to 3 drones. In photo, a musette from center France, my favourite bagpipe!
The button diatonic accordion is a musical instrument useful for playing ethnic music: you can play melodies, you can play chords, you can sing above the accordion and if you want to change the tone... well, you just need to change the instrument! :)
From tenor to sopranino, these woodwinds with a whistle mouthpiece are awesome: practical, cheap and versatile.
Fischietti, fifre, quena and friscaletti are just few regional names for these traditional woodwinds with or without mouthpiece. Used alone or in couple.
Traditional guitar for accompaniment from Veracruz (Gulf of Mexico).
Traditional percussion from southern Italy and Mediterranean aera. "Lu tamburrieddu mia nu viziu teni, tutte le carusedde faci ballari!"
Harmonica is the ancestor of accordion and it's probably the most human instrument existing.
Classican woodwind with single reed. Warm and gentle on low register (chalumeau) and bright and powerful on high register (clarino). The most versatile instrument in the world!
